Gong Xi Fai Cai!
February 7, 2008 by simplicity
I wish all my Chinese friends in Singapore and elsewhere a warm Gong Xi Fa Cai!
Chinese New Year is the biggest celebration in Singapore. If you love to experience local culture, visit Singapore during Chinese New Year. There are lots of celebrations throughout the island with bargains at shopping centers and promotions elsewhere. Stay until the lantern festival which falls on the 15 day of the new year.
My highlight of Chinese New Year in Singapore was the reunion dinner. I didn’t need to be Chinese to enjoy the dinner with friends and, sometimes, colleagues. Reunion dinners are offered at almost all restaurants, hotels, clubs. Buying oranges and visiting friends were fun. When visiting a Chinese home or business, taking oranges, just two, is considered good luck. I miss wearing chong sum, Chinese long dress, if only for an evening.
It’s Chinese cuisine for dinner tonight.
